Bringing the club together

Ihsan Youth FC began with a shared love of football and the idea of bringing people together on the pitch. We formed our own club and took part in the BDFL, an adult men’s amateur football league, giving members of our community a team to be part of.

The club gave us a chance to get active, spend time together and work towards a common goal. Putting on the Ihsan Youth shirt meant representing our community and making an effort for the people playing alongside us.

Training and playing together

During the project, we trained together, played several matches and organised friendly games. Training was a chance to practise, build fitness and get to know one another as players. It gave us time to develop our teamwork and prepare for the challenges of a match.

Taking to the pitch brought that preparation into practice. Each game offered an opportunity to learn, support one another and enjoy playing football as a team. League participation and friendly matches both formed part of the club’s experience, alongside the time we spent training together.

A shared part of our story

Looking back, the club was a way to bring Ihsan’s community spirit into sport. Training and match days gave us time outside our usual routines to connect, put in some effort and share something we enjoyed. Teamwork, respect and encouragement are values we want to carry into all our community activities.

There were also hopes of developing youth and women’s teams in the future. These remained ambitions for widening participation, alongside the men’s club that had been established.
