An evening to learn and reflect
Some of the most meaningful moments in community life begin with making time to learn together. On Saturday 31 October at 6 pm, Ihsan Youth & Family Centre will host Discover the Night Journey, a lecture about Al-Isra wal-Mi’raj in Islam.
This interactive learning experience is an invitation to pause, deepen our understanding and reflect on a remarkable part of the Prophet’s life. Whether you are encountering the subject for the first time or returning to something you learned years ago, we invite you to join us with curiosity and an open heart.
What is Al-Isra wal-Mi’raj?
Al-Isra refers to the Night Journey. The opening verse of Surah Al-Isra describes Allah taking His servant by night from the Sacred Mosque to the Farthest Mosque, whose surroundings He blessed, to show him some of His signs. You can read the verse in Quran 17:1.
Al-Mi’raj refers to the Ascension. The account in Sahih Muslim 162a relates the Prophet’s ascent through the heavens and the prescription of the daily prayers. Together, these accounts invite us to reflect on Allah’s power, the honour given to His Messenger and the place of worship in a Muslim’s life.
A reminder carried into every day
One of the central lessons associated with Al-Mi’raj is the importance of salah. The hadith describes the prayers being reduced to five each day while retaining the reward of fifty: a powerful reminder of Allah’s mercy.
For us, this is an opportunity to think about the prayer that shapes our ordinary days. How can we approach it with greater attention? How can we make time for remembrance amid school, work and family responsibilities? Learning about the Night Journey can encourage us to return to these questions with renewed care.
